Are you a Carmichael; MacDougall; McColl; Livingstone; McCaig; McCormick; McGillivray; McFadyen or a MacGregor? Or did your ancestors emigrate to the US or Canada from the Isle of Lismore in the 18th or 19th century?

Experience Lismore’s ancient Clan heritage from the comfort one of our seven-seater Land Rovers...
Lismore is a beautiful green island near Oban on the West coast of Scotland, it’s 10 miles long and about a mile wide. It is easily accessible by ferry from Oban (55 minutes) or Port Appin (10 minutes).
Today, the island is home to a vibrant & diverse West coast community, with descendants of the ancient Clans still resident. Unlike Mull, Iona, Skye and Loch Ness, Lismore has not been over-run by tourists, leaving you to discover the same wild landscape and unspoilt views your ancestors would have enjoyed.
In one of our half-day tours with Robert, a highly experienced local guide, you’ll visit the spectacular MacDougall castle ruins of Achinduin and Coeffin, built by Duncan and Ewan MacDougall in the late 13thcentury, as well as the remnants of St. Moluag’s cathedral and medieval graveslabs and other ancient sites such as the 2.500 year-old Tirfuir Broch. Opt for a meeting with Lismore’s resident genealogist at the Lismore Gaelic Heritage Centre to trace your specific ancestor, and even visit your ancestor’s birthplace on the island as we have full off-road access to remote sites.
How to get here...
Fly in to Inverness, Glasgow or Edinburgh airports, of which all have great rail and bus connections to Oban, where we will pick you up for your bespoke tour. Choose extra comfort and rent a car or chauffeur service to explore the Highlands at your own pace. We also offer four-star self-catering accommodation on the island, in our family home in Port Ramsay, or why not stay in Port Appin in the five-star Airds Hotel or the four- star Pierhouse Hotel? Do not hesitate to contact us so we can help you plan your Scottish adventure!
